The ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic continues to affect people from all walks of life in Hong Kong. In order to give youth organisations the funds they need to maintain their services, the Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Foundation set up the Anti-Epidemic Support Fund. It provided HK$100,000 each to 30 charitable or non-profit organisations serving local youths, for a total amount of HK$3 million.
In early April 2020, the funds were released to organisations such as RunOurCity, Barefoot Doctors, Social Ventures Hong Kong Foundation (SVHK), Hong Kong Youth and Tertiary Students Association (HKYTSA), Hong Kong Youth Leaders Development Association (YLDA) and Action Sports Foundation. These organisations are involved in areas including sports, medical care, catering, leadership training, disability inclusion, youth employment and ethnic minority services.
The funds were greatly needed when they were disbursed as the beneficiary organisations all said that their incomes and service audiences have been substantially curtailed due to the suspension of activities as a result of the pandemic. With the moneys received, they will be able to survive through this troubling period.
